Nutra-A Plus 100 Capsules: This product contains 25,000 units of vitamin A. The Nutra-A Plus has 8,333 IU from each of the following: beta-carotene, fish liver oil and vitamin A palmitate. The beta-carotene is a natural source from mixed carotenoid that also contains alpha-carotene, cryptoxanthein, lutein, zeaxanthin, and lycopene. Vitamin A activity is only claimed for the beta-carotene, but the other carotenoids have other important biological activities, and some are even more powerful antioxidants than beta-carotene. A combination of carotenoids is more natural, since foods contain all of the carotenoids. There is also an extra margin of safety when some of the vitamin A activity is provided in the carotenoid form. Carotenoids are essentially non-toxic, even at high doses.
